Bundles of long products have to be strapped tightly several times along their length to become a secure package. In principle, there are two different strapping arrangements possible. Either the strapping machines* are stationary and the product bundle is positioned in the strapping machines or the product bundle is stationary and the strapping machines are positioned along the bundle.
For the strapping of up to 24m / 78.7ft long profile bundles TITAN designed an arrangement consisting of two individual strapping machines each being positionable on 12m / 39.4ft long tracks next to and along the profile bundle. The strapping machines are driven via chains by frequency controlled gear motors to allow for a fast and precise positioning.
The strapping heads are located on top of the strapping machines and the strap channels on the track side of the strapping machines are mounted in fixed positions. The strap channels on the non-track side and also underneath the profile bundle are extendable channels, which are extended once the strapping heads are moved from their parking positions (on the track side) over the profile bundle.
After the positioning of the strapping heads and the strap channels the strapping processes start and straps are put around the profile bundle. Then the strapping heads are moved down and the tensioning processes pull the straps real strong and tighten the profile bundle. Typically steel strap is used and the sealings are done with the TITANARG® welded joint.
The arrangement of the strapping machines on tracks allows for a real flexible strapping with regard to the number of straps and also with regard to the positions along the profile bundle. So, the strapping “pattern” can be individually selected according to the needs of the individual profile bundle. This ensures that each profile bundle receives the strength it needs through its individual strapping program … for a maximum security in handling as well as transportation of the profile bundles.
